Cullowhee, N.C. - Former Western Carolina track & field standout Manteo Mitchell has signed a professional contract with the WAFEL Sports Management team out of Brussels, Belgium. On Thursday, Mitchell competed in his first professional event in Europe, taking first place in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dash events at the 17th International Peugeot Meeting Flanders Cup.

Opening in the 400-meter, Mitchell cruised to a time of 47.48 to take the first place out of lane four. Running again just an hour later, he posted his season best time of 20.85 out of lane 7 in the 200-meter event, also winning the event.
