During much of the last four years, Justin Gatlin lamented his lost status among the world’s sprinting elite. He appealed his penalty for testing positive for steroids and adjusted to his reshaped life as an aspiring professional football player and a fitness entrepreneur. He said he felt as if he had lost a child, and missed track and field every day.
